Brain Break Ideas - (Descriptions to come)
The younger the grade the more important it is to take frequent brain breaks! I use brain breaks every 15 minutes or so to make sure the students are fresh and ready to learn.
- Walk Around - This has been my class's favorite brain break this year. Have the students make a circle around the classroom and face the same direction. Then you give them a series of orders that they have to follow. Here are some examples of orders we use but be creative! (walk, walk slowly, walk quickly, reverse (backwards), switch (change directions), walk like an egyptian, hop (like a ninja so the do it quietly on their toes!), jump in place, ice skate, leap frog, crawl, FREEZE!, cha-cha, limbo, etc.
- The Mirror Game - One person stands in front of the class and makes different gestures, silly faces, or movements. The rest of the class (facing this person), has to mimic what is being done.
- Simon Says - This one is simple and after a few weeks you can have a student lead the class if you need to buy a few seconds of time to put in attendance!
